RPM to m/s

Surface speed of a wheel, roller or pulley from its RPM and diameter.

Inputs

Result

Surface speed

26.6

How it’s calculated

Formula

v=ω d2=2π rpm60 d2v = \omega \, \frac{d}{2} = \frac{2\pi \, \text{rpm}}{60} \, \frac{d}{2}

With your numbers (converted to SI units)

v=523.6 rad/s×0.1016 m2=26.6 m/sv = 523.6\,\text{rad/s} \times \frac{0.1016\,\text{m}}{2} = 26.6\,\text{m/s}

What it means

One rotation moves a point on the rim by one circumference (π d), so surface speed is rotations per second times the circumference. Switch the output unit to get ft/s or in/s.

Assumptions

  • No slip at the rim.
